In September 1983, the first Brazilian Telecommunications Symposium was held in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, the Brazilian Telecommunications Society has organized the Brazilian Telecommunications Symposium (SBrT), which has become the reference forum for professionals in the sector. In its thirty-seventh edition, the Brazilian Symposium on Telecommunications and Signal Processing will be held in Petrópolis between September 29 and October 2, 2019. The general theme of SBrT in 2019 will be Communication, Learning and Cooperation among Machines, Objects and Humans.

The idea of conducting the Brazilian Symposium on Telecommunications and Signal Processing in the city of Petrópolis has been circulating for some time among the members of the organizing committee. The option for Petrópolis allows to bring the event to the southeast region, but doing it in a different place, where it has not yet occurred. Petrópolis is a historic city with a mild climate, so it is intended that the SBrT community can simultaneously interact scientifically and technically in a good environment such as knowing in situ some places closely related to the history of Brazil and also a wrapping nature.
